Trophy Mule Deer

Harvesting a Boone & Crockett mule deer is as great if not a greater accomplishment then harvesting a Boone & Crockett elk. Record book bucks have been taken on many southwestern
hunting ranches in the areas around Datil, Magdalena, Quemado, Pie Town, and Reserve. Watching, and scouting, for the big bucks throughout the September and October elk season increases the odds of success. As a result, when muzzleloader mule deer season opens in late October Catron, Socorro, Cibola, and Valencia counties
ranches and public lands produce some trophy mule deer. Deer incentives permits are issued to
ranches that provide habitat improvement for their mule deer population.
